Well doesn’t a year go fast. It sure does in teacher/school world. I think that is the problem when you have the weeks on a term planner and you rub them off as you go.
Well done to all our students on an excellent year. This past week has been such a celebration and a reminder of all the great things we have achieved this year. The Year Ten graduation assembly and dinner were both great events and I’m sure each graduating student was blessed. Well done to all the staff who put 100% plus into these events.
Reports are written. Well done teachers on getting them finished. Please remember that reports are a way of partnering with you for the benefit of your child. Some things will be great and all comments will be honest. Use any constructive criticism to help spur your child on to the next level. Unfortunately we are living in a world that stays away from the truth, the truth might hurt. But in my experience teaching our children to receive truth and be teachable is a most important strength. I remember several years ago I had a 360 degree performance management. Un be known to me I didn’t realise I would be receiving everyones raw comments in an email. 43 pages of comments. I wont lie 90% of comments were great and 10% not so much. But I remember making a decision to embrace the 10% and learn and grow from this. I was demonstrating to those around me and myself the art of being teachable. As uncomfortable as the process was, I do believe much growth and improvement occurred.
Be like this with your child’s report. Use it to encourage and to spur them on. Remember also a report doesn’t define your child, it is just a communication tool. Proverbs 4:5 says, “Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.” Don’t turn away from insight about how your child is doing.
As this is the last week of term I would also like to thank you on behalf of the Board, Leadership Team and all staff for partnering with us in 2017. It is a privilege and an honour to be involved in the education of your child/children.
I would also like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope this Christmas you take time to remember the reason for the season and the enduring name of Jesus. Christmas is a celebration of Jesus birth and I always find it amazing that one man, one name can be so influential on the earth. Matthew 1:23-25 reads, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.”
I have learnt in my life, even before I had committed my life to Jesus that God is with us. I couldn’t imagine life without God to turn to and I hope this will also be true for you.
Have a wonderful holiday break and we look forward to partnering with you again in 2018.
